TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
Naugatuck Youth Soccer is pleased to announce the 23rd annual Sao Paio Invitational Soccer Tournament (SPIN). The Connecticut Junior Soccer Association has once again sanctioned this exciting event. This tournament is for club teams only. All-star teams and premier teams will not be accepted. U-9 and U-10 teams are E bracket teams and can roster no more than sixteen (16) players. U-11 and U-12 teams can roster no more than eighteen (18) players and the U-13 and U-14 teams can roster no more than twenty (20) players.
U-9 though U-12 will play 8v8. U-13 and U-14 will play 11v11. Players will not be allowed to play on more than one team, regardless of age group.
The Tournament fee is $300 for U-9 and U-10 teams, and $325 for U-11 through U-14 teams. The fee, completed application and preliminary roster must be received no later than August 15, 2008. Applications are available online and must be mailed in along with fee in order to be entered. Acceptance of applications will be based on space availability in the indicated division and the date the application is received.
Teams will be notified of acceptance and sent additional information by August 18, 2008. Teams not accepted will receive a full refund. Please make all checks payable to Naugatuck Youth Soccer (NYS).
Teams are required to register with the Field Marshal one hour before kickoff at the field of their first game. At that time each team must provide: (1) a team roster duly authorized by your state and national associations as proof of age; (2) medical releases for all players and (3) Permission to Travel form (only required of teams from New Jersey or traveling from outside Region I) and (4) Guest player approval forms. All teams U-11 through U-14 must also be prepared to provide player passes at that time. Passes are not required of U9 and U10 teams only. The Field Marshal will verify rosters and passes 15 minutes before each subsequent game.
U-11 through U-14 will play a minimum of three (3) games. U-9 and U-10 will play four (4) short-sided games (8V8) on smaller fields. A limited number of games will be scheduled for the Friday evening in some age groups. You can indicate if you are interested in playing a Friday evening game on your application. The playoff rounds will be played on Sunday, August 31st. Trophies will be awarded to first and second place teams in each age group except for U-9 and U-10, where each player will receive a participation award. This is a patch tournament so each team should be prepared to exchange club patches with opposing teams after each game.
The tournament committee reserves the right to reschedule games due to inclement weather. Monday, September 1st may be used as a rain date to complete the full schedule of games.
The Portuguese Club of Naugatuck holds its annual Sao Paio Feast on the same days as the competition. The Club provides music, dancing and traditional Portuguese cuisine for all to enjoy. The Feast is held on the grounds of the Portuguese Club, which is located in Naugatuck at the corner of Route 63 and Rubber Avenue. All teams are invited to march in the Sao Paio Parade on Saturday evening, August 30th.
We look forward to receiving your application, and seeing you at the Sao Paio Invitational Naugatuck Soccer Tournament.
Sincerely,
Bill Brown
Tournament Chairman
