"What are the soccer seasons?"
The soccer year runs from August 1 to July 31, and consists of a fall and a spring season. Fall season games typically begin the Saturday after Labor Day, with practices commencing one to two weeks prior. The spring season begins in April. Each recreational soccer season typically consists of a ten-week schedule.

"When are the season registration periods and deadlines?"
Registration for the fall season begins May 1 and the deadline is June 30. Registration for the spring begins after the fall awards ceremonies and the deadline is January 31.

"How old does my child have to be to play soccer?"
A child must turn 5 years old sometime during the current soccer year in order to be allowed to play. After that a child is eligible to play in a specific age group when they become that age during the soccer year. As stated above the soccer year runs August 1st to July 31st.  For example: to be eligible to play in the U-5/U-6 age bracket during the 2004-2005 season, a player must turn five by July 31, 2005.

"What paperwork do I need to submit to register my child to play soccer?"
A completed, signed registration form and the correct fee amount. In addition, all new players to Naugatuck Youth Soccer must provide a copy of the player’s birth certificate that the league will keep. A player will be registered and rostered to a team only if all the paperwork is complete, including a birth certificate for new players, and the proper fee has been paid.

"Where can I get registration forms?"
Registration forms can be picked up at either the Parks & Recreation Department on Rubber Avenue, at the YMCA on Church Street, at NYS open registrations, or Age Directors will have some at the field the last two weeks of each season.

"How much are the registration fees?"
As of Fall 2007:
U-5 through U-10 Recreation players $65
U-11 through U-14 District Recreation players: $110
U-9 Developmental Pool players: $65
U-10 Developmental Pool players: $65 fall season; $110 spring season
Competition teams: $110
Family Discount: Third family player and beyond: $10 discount each
Returned Check Fee: $25

"Where do I submit the registration materials?"
Recreation Players may:
    1) Turn in paperwork at on of the walk-in registrations; or
    2) Mail forms to:
        Naugatuck Youth Soccer
        P.O. Box 772
        Naugatuck, CT 06770
Competition Players must register through their head coach.

"What happens if my child’s registration is received after the registration deadline?
Any registration forms received and or postmarked after the deadline will be put on a waiting list. Players will be added to a team roster if space permits, based on the date the registration form was received.

"What is the registration refund policy?
Requests for refunds must be made in writing or on the Refund Request Form that can be downloaded from the NYS web site.  Full refunds will be given if the request is received up to two weeks prior to season beginning.   Requests received within those two weeks will be eligible for a partial refund (registration fee less league expenses).  No refunds will be given after the start of the season. Special considerations to be reviewed by the NYS Board of Directors on a case by case basis.

"What is the returned check policy?
All returned checks will be assessed a penalty fee based on current returned check fee charged by our bank.

"Is my child eligible to register with NYS if I live out of town?"
Yes, but there may be issues and/or limitations for players registering for competition teams.

"Can I be registered to more than one soccer club?"
No, but you may be a member of both NYS and a state Premier team.

"When and where are the practices?"
All practices are held weekday evenings between 4:00pm – 9:00pm. Our volunteer coaches chose the days and times that best suit their schedules. In-town practice space is assigned at the beginning of each season based on field availability.

"When and where are the games?"
Recreational games are played Saturday mornings, with occasional night games during the season. In-town game fields are determined at the beginning of each season based on field availability. Competition, U-13/14 Recreation Plus, and U-10 Developmental Pool players will travel to away games and tournaments.

"Can I request that my child is on the same team as a sibling or friend for carpooling reasons?"
We can accommodate requests for carpooling with one other player. This request must be indicated on the registration forms for both players. Siblings will be kept together on request, as long as they belong in the same age and gender appropriate bracket.

"Can I request that my child has a specific coach?"
We cannot guarantee that a player will be on a particular team or with the same coach as last year, unless you are the head coach for the team child is assigned to. Players may be assigned to the same team as the previous year, but this is not always possible due to numbers of players on the team, etc. In a situation where a team is known to have been much stronger or weaker than other teams last season, the age director may reassign players in order to maintain approximately equal strength teams. Being a head coach of a team is the only way to guarantee that your child gets the coach you want.

"My child did not like the coach from last season. What can I do?"
Please indicate the coach’s name and your desire not to have him/her on the registration form and the request will be honored when possible. I would be very helpful if you also included a note stating your reasons for not wanting this coach

"I have an evening conflict. Can I request a specific practice day and time?"
Please indicate any conflicts or requests of this kind of the registration form and the request will be honored when possible.

"I did not get my registration in on time. How does this affect any requests?"
Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to honor any requests on late registrations.

"When and how will I find out what team my child is on?"
The team coach will call you within two weeks prior to the first game of the season.

"Is participating in practices and games mandatory?"
Soccer is a team sport and participating in practice fosters a team approach to the game, besides learning and trying new techniques. Practices and games should be attended unless you are ill or there is a legitimate conflict with a school, family or personal event. Please inform your coach if you are unable to attend a practice or game.

"Can my child "play up" in a older age bracket?"
Playing-up is not permitted within the recreational program. In the competition program Play-ups may be permitted once the player is U-14 or above.

"My question was not answered here. Who can I contact?"
Registration questions should be directed to the club registrar, while the Age Bracket Directors can field any questions pertaining to their age specific program. Please remember that these people are volunteers also and are typically only available in the evenings. The telephone number for each Director is posted in our web pages and in each of the three newsletters distributed each season.
